Pier C Park is the newest waterfront attraction

Hoboken, NJ - Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Pier C Park is located on the Hudson Rover Walkway, between Third and Fourth streets, as part of the City’s ongoing effort to provide open and recreational space on the waterfront.

The two and a half acre park features recreational opportunities for both children and adults. The sculptural quality of the land simulates the forms of a barrier beach while the interior breaks open to reveal the play landscape – a whimsical, other-scaled world designed to engage children of all ages and abilities. The playground is separated into a pre-school play area, which includes structures for climbing and hiding, slides, and sand play and water play.

The promenade, at the eastern edge of the pier, provides recreational opportunities for adults and families in addition to the introduction of lawn areas for sunbathing and casual games, in addition to a fishing pier.

The idea of nature as recreation is expressed in the park’s wildlife opportunities which are represented in the planting scheme, which strongly favors coastal species and intends to attract wildlife.

The park, funded by the City, the Port Authority and the States’ Green Acres Fund, is part of a 20 acre initiative to create new recreational and open space throughout the City.
