The Hoboken Public Library offers a broad and diverse collection of books and other library materials, innovative programs, knowledgeable staff, timely service, and cutting edge technologies in an inviting and historic building. With a Hoboken Library card, you can borrow on-line or in person from among the more than 5 million items available on the shelves of our 75 member libraries. Your library card also gives you access to the many BCCLS databases including Proquest, Infotrac, and Ebscohost for full text articles from newspapers, journals and other resources.
In addition to books, movies, audio books, magazines, CDs, and databases, your library card is your ticket to the many cultural events at your library including concerts, films, book clubs, lectures, and fun and educational programs for children and teens. Public computers with Microsoft Office Software and free internet access are available in the various departments for children, teens and adults. The Library’s staff can assist you in finding materials, choosing a book and learning research skills. The reference staff will answer your questions by phone or email, as well as in person.
Our Hoboken History collection includes more than 600 Hoboken and New Jersey related books, over 1,000 black and white photographs of Hoboken, oral history transcripts from Hoboken residents, and select years of City Directories including some historical documents. Visitors from different states as well as overseas have come to the library to view the collection and display of Sinatra related books, photographs, and other memorabilia.
The Children’s and Young Adult departments offer local schools the opportunity to bring classes to the library for special visits that are tailored to students’ needs–from high school students working on research papers to preschoolers wishing to hear a good story. There are also regularly scheduled story-times for infants and toddlers, and weekly activities for teens.
