One of the main functions of the Director of Public Safety is to assist both the Fire Chief and the Police Chief in maintaining one of the best departments of public safety possible.

If you would like to hold an event in the City of Hoboken, you must fill out this request form and drop it off in the Public Safety Director’s Office at City Hall. If you have any questions regarding this event form or would like to cancel your event, please contact the Director of Public Safety Office. Main list will be maintained in Public Director’s Office

Hoboken Fire Department

The Hoboken Fire Department has proudly served the community since 1891. Though fire fighting techniques have changed over the past 100 years, our commitment and dedication to this community remains unchanged. Through continued training of personnel, public education & awareness programs and enforcement of state and local fire codes, this department strives to maintain the highest level of preparedness thus enabling the department to provide efficient, cost effective emergency services to the citizens of Hoboken.

Hoboken Police Department

The Hoboken Police Department was established in 1855 as a seven man police force. Today the Police Department is one of the most progressive police agencies in the State of New Jersey with a complement of over 150 sworn and civil personnel. We are a pro-active agency that incorporates a Community Policing Bureau which is actively involved with crime prevention, quality of life issues, and foot patrols. The department serves the community in many capacities which include: Uniform Patrol Services, Mounted Horse Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, a motorcycle division, Criminal Investigations and anti-Vice Bureaus, an Alcohol Beverage Control Unit, Firearms Application Unit, Bureau of Identification and an Inspectional Services Bureau.

Emergency Management

The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is dedicated to providing a comprehensive Emergency Management System which coordinates people and resources to protect the lives, property and environment of the City of Hoboken using an “all-hazard” approach through mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery from emergencies and disasters.
