MESSAGE FROM MAYOR DAVID ROBERTS

CHURCH SQUARE PARK

A COMMUNITY JEWEL

As you may know, over the past few months, we have been making renovations to Church Square Park to serve the needs of the entire community, from youngsters and the approximately 1,000 local school children to those older who enjoy the evening gazebo concerts, hosted annually since 1986 by John De Palma under the direction of Councilman-at Large Patrick Pasculli, the future Mayor, and myself as the Sixth Ward Councilman, among others.

Church Square Park is a Hoboken landmark, featured in such masterpieces as “On the Waterfront.” Today this storied location has undergone major renovations and is up and running to accommodate the needs of our entire population who value outdoor recreation.

I, personally, have a great fondness for the park, going back to my childhood where I learned to ride a two wheel bike. I would like current and future generations to have similar enjoyable memories. Church Square Park is a treasure. I firmly support the preservation and creation of open space and the restoration of this park serves today as the cornerstone of this mission.

Sincerely,

Mayor David Roberts

P.S., I would like to acknowledge the entire City Council for their efforts to create open space: Councilwoman Theresa Castellano, Councilman Angelo Giacchi, Councilman Peter J. Cammarano, Councilwoman Terry LaBruno, Councilman Ruben Ramos, Councilwoman Elizabeth Mason, Councilman Michael Russo, Councilwoman Dawn Zimmer and Councilman Peter Cunningham.
