the quality of life for current and future Hoboken residents.
Throughout his career in public life, Mayor Roberts has identified
and addressed many significant community issues. |
He is a fierce advocate for the Hoboken property taxpayer, and
he works diligently to promote responsible government spending,
consistently reviewing budgets and identifying ways to provide
better, more efficient and more cost effective city services.
He is also a strong advocate for renters and families who live
in affordable housing, leading the fight time and again to preserve
the city’s affordable housing stock. More recently,
Mayor Roberts has been a strong voice on behalf of local residents,
addressing their concerns regarding over-development in Hoboken. He
has made the case that the City must monitor development to
ensure that no new projects are approved without truly benefiting
Hoboken’s residents. Mayor Roberts also has worked during
his career in public service to improve Hoboken’s schools,
preserve the historic integrity of the City, and promote a close-knit
community that nurtures its cultural diversity. In fact,
as a Councilman, Mayor Roberts sponsored the creation of Hoboken’s
Division of Cultural Affairs. Mayor Roberts has received
three historic preservation awards from the Hoboken Historic
Preservation Commission in recognition of his efforts.

Elementary School, Hoboken High School, and Jersey City State
College; he received his degree from Thomas Edison State College.

baseball team, PAL football, the Hoboken High School baseball
team and played freshman football while at Jersey City State
College.
In July of 1981, Mayor Roberts joined the Hoboken Fire Department
where he served continuously until 1985. He received a
Class III Valor Award for the successful team rescue of two
young children. On February 19, 1984, under severe fire
and heavy smoke conditions, Mayor Roberts was a member of the
team that rescued two young children from a burning building
at 833 Clinton Street, Hoboken.
Mayor Roberts also has made successful investments in commercial
and residential real estate in Hoboken. The Roberts family
has developed several successful establishments which include

Hoboken restaurant.
