Hoboken Spring Arts & Music Festival


Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the City of Hoboken are proud to host the Spring Arts & Music Festival on Sunday, May 6th (rain or shine) from 11am and 6pm. Admission is free. The fair will take place on Washington Street between Observer Highway and 7th Street and will include over 300 artists, sculptors, photographers and craftspeople as well as rides, games, face painting, local businesses, restaurants, food vendors and much more. HPU Eliminates Wait Lists at Municipal Garages

The Hoboken Parking Utility (HPU) announced today that the well-known waiting lists for parking in municipal garages that have forced Hoboken residents to wait for years at a time to get in have finally been eliminated. The successful sale of Hoboken University Medical Center cleared the way for residents to find relief from the most notorious waiting list of all at Midtown garage.

“When I took this job, I was handed a wait list for garages that in some cases was over 200 people and nearly three years long,” said Transportation and Parking Director Ian Sacs “After two years of careful management, organizational changes, and creative thinking from my staff, we can proudly say there is no longer a wait for anyone who wants to park in a municipal garage!” Read the rest of this entry »

Sinatra Park Soccer Field and Walkway Reconstruction Underway

Reconstruction is underway on the waterfront soccer field at Sinatra Park and the walkway at Castle Point. In late 2011, the Department of Environmental Protection and Army Corps of Engineers approved the City’s plans to reconstruct the collapsed field and walkways. The City has awarded a contract for the reconstruction of the field and walkway specifying a completion date of December 21, 2012 and a $1,500 per day penalty for each day the project is completed late.  Read the rest of this entry »

Flood Watch Issued; Free Garage Parking For Hoboken Residents In Flood-Prone Areas

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for our area from Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. Several inches of rain are possible. Due to the potential for flooding, the City of Hoboken is providing free parking in municipal Garage B (located on 2nd Street between Hudson and River streets) beginning Sunday, April 22nd at 12pm noon through Monday, April 23rd at 8am for residents who reside in flood prone areas and have a valid Resident parking permit or Temporary parking permit placard. Free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Residents who have a Resident parking permit or Temporary parking permit are reminded that overnight parking from 8pm to 8am is available every day in Municipal Garages B, D (215 Hudson St), and Midtown (371 4th St) for $5.

Hoboken Charter School Participates in Arbor Day Tree Planting


Students from Hoboken Charter participated in planting two trees today as part of the City of Hoboken’s celebration of Arbor Day. Students of the PeaceJam club, grades 9-12, dug out two tree pits on Bloomfield and 4th Streets for the new London Plane trees. Event participants included Mira Septimus, Service Learning Coordinator at Hoboken Charter School & PeaceJAM Leader, Tabitha Escobar, a junior at Hoboken Charter School and PeaceJAM member, James Tricarico of the Hoboken Shade Tree Commission, and Mayor Dawn Zimmer.

Mayor Thanks Council and Directors For Passage of Budget


Despite legacy costs and retroactive salary payments going back to 2007, the City Council adopted a budget tonight with a $900,000 reduction in the municipal tax levy and a 3.6% cash surplus level. The municipal tax levy has been reduced by approximately $6 million since 2010.

“Thank you to Council President Bhalla, Finance Chair Cunningham, and Council members Marsh, Mello, and Giattino for their support as well as my directors and the finance department for working so hard to create this strong, responsible budget,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “I am proud that our teamwork enabled the budget to be adopted in the shortest timeframe in over a decade and will continue working to provide city services as effectively and efficiently as possible.”

Legion Park Re-Opens With New Playground Equipment


Local children joined Mayor Dawn Zimmer to cut the ribbon and re-open Legion Park this afternoon. The pocket park is located 1225 Willow Avenue and was upgraded with new playground equipment and safety surface as part of a city-wide parks improvement project. New York Red Bulls Special Needs Soccer Program Returns to Hoboken

The New York Red Bulls Believe program will be returning to the City of Hoboken this spring season. The program began in Hoboken in 2011 and was held in the spring and fall. Believe is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl who has special needs.

Jefferson Street Park Re-Opened With New Play Equipment
